Myrtle Beach is getting another December All-Star football game, this time in the college ranks. The FCS Senior Football Scout Bowl will play at Doug Shaw Stadium on December 17th. Coastal Carolina's David Bennett has been selected to coach the South All-Stars. Last year, CCU seniors Zach MacDowall and Dominique Davenport played in the showcase game. The Chanticleers have three pro prospects that are currently catching attention of NFL Scouts: DB Josh Norman, Safety Marcus Lott and Tight End/QB Jamie Childers.

FCS Senior Football Scout Bowl Will Call Myrtle Beach Area Home in 2011
‘North vs. South’ format all-star game to be held at Doug Shaw Stadium Dec. 17
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) announced Monday that they will host the second annual FCS Senior Scout Bowl at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach this December. The FCS Senior Scout Bowl will bring all-star senior players representing 124 FCS Division football programs to the Myrtle Beach area Dec. 14-17, providing them a chance to play against their division peers in a showcase game for both scouts and collegiate football fans.
“These players have worked extremely hard and have earned the honor to participate in this scouting bowl,” said George St. Lawrence, co-founder of the FCS Senior Scout Bowl, “The FCS Senior Scout Bowl Committee takes pride in its selection process and since being founded just over a year ago, four players selected to play in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl have moved on to play in the NFL.”
Those players include: Collin Zych of the Dallas Cowboys, Daiveun Curry-Chapman and Sean Jeffcoat of the Arizona Cardinals, and Armond Smith of the Cleveland Browns.
A few players from Coastal Carolina University played in the inaugural FCS Senior Scout Bowl last year held in the New York metro area. CCU Coach Dave Bennett attended the scout bowl, recognized its potential for success and approached organizers about moving it to the Myrtle Beach area.
“Coach Bennett was very persuasive in encouraging us to move the scout bowl to Myrtle Beach, and it truly is a perfect fit. We’re excited to be calling the Grand Strand home,” said St. Lawrence, “And while it is in December, it gives the players a chance to see Myrtle Beach and enjoy some of the amenities in their down time.”
A collaborative partnership among event organizers, the city of Myrtle Beach, and the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, along with the help of Coach Bennett, has helped to ensure the success of the second-year event. One of the larger benefits tourism promoters in the area foresee with this event is the potential for national media coverage. Last year’s FCS Senior Scout Bowl was broadcast on FOX College Sports.
Securing sporting events like the FCS Senior Scout Bowl continues to be a focus of efforts to attract visitors to the Grand Strand during the shoulder-season months, as athletes often bring friends or family with them to the area.
While some details are still being worked out in the overall practice schedule, the 2011 FCS Senior Scout Bowl game will feature 86 players in a ‘North vs. South’ all-star format and will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at Doug Shaw Stadium.
