Class 3A
Two weeks ago, Socastee was 2-6 and down in the dumps after a 23-22 loss to Georgetown, but thanks to wins over Wilson and Saint James, the Braves won a three team tiebreaker to get the #2 seed in their region. I'll have to check the history books, but this may be Socastee's first ever home playoff game. A good storyline with Bluffton hosting Georgetown - former Georgetown and South Flo head man Ken Cribb will welcome his former team to the Hilton Head area. There's a potential 3A quarterfinal of Hartsville at Myrtle Beach. The Seahawks would have to travel to AC Flora if they make it to the Lower State Final.
Class 2A Division I
A new look to the 2A post-season, broken up into two divisions and every single team making the playoffs. Dillon and Loris were able to get first round byes. The seeding is based on a points system. At first glance, Dillon appears to have been shorted in getting a #2 seed, but the Wildcats have to like their draw. Hanahan and Timberland are in the upper half and will have to beat each other up to get to Dillon. The Wildcats potentially have a Low Country trip to Hanahan in a Lower State final. Loris on the other hand has a real tough draw as they will host Timberland. The Wolves beat Kingstree 60-0 on Friday night and the same two teams face again this Friday.
Class 2A Division II
Marion's 40-7 win over Mullins was good enough to get the Swamp Foxes the last bye in the Lower State bracket. If Andrews can take care of Pelion, a Yellow Jackets vs. Marion round two showdown will be fun to watch. Bishop England is the #1 seed and a heavy favorite to reach the state championship.
Class 1A Division I
Lamar and East Clarendon are in the Upper State bracket, while Johnsonville and Hemingway/Carvers Bay are in the Lower. Lamar's week nine win in Turbeville proved to be huge. The Silver Foxes got a 3 seed while the Wolverines dropped to 7 and a tough draw at Chesterfield. The Tigers and Bears rematch from Week Five when Hemingway handled Carvers Bay 27-6.
Class 1A Division II
Can a 5-5 team be a state championship contender? The answer is yes if you're talking about the Timmonsville Whirlwinds. Thanks to a season sweep of Lamar, Jimmy Woods team is a #2 seed and battle tested thanks to games against Marion, Mullins and Wilson.
