Zack Byrd fired a final round 65 to advance to the second stage of the PGA Tour's Q-School in Saint Augustine, Florida. Byrd, who played his collegiate golf at Coastal Carolina, came into the fourth and final round in 28th place. The top 22 and ties advanced to the second stage. Byrd birdied seven of his last 12 holes to advance by two strokes. His 65 was the second lowest round of the day. The stage was won by Sam Saunders, grandson of Arnold Palmer.

Byrd will now advance to one of the six second stage sites in Mid-November. He'll need to play four more rounds and have a good enough score to advance to the Q-School's final stage in Florida in early December. The final stage is six rounds of golf with top finishers receiving a PGA Tour Card for the 2012 season.
Byrd played at CCU from 2004-2009 as a teammate of PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson. In June of 2011, Byrd played in the US Open at Congressional going through qualifying to play 36 holes before missing the cut.
