(AP) -- CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Tajh Boyd threw three touchdowns and Andre Ellington ran for 165 yards as Clemson held on for a 35-27 victory over Wofford on Saturday.
The Tigers (2-0) hadn't faced the Football Championship Subdivision school since 2001 - and might wait that long again after this one. Clemson's defense struggled to stop the Terriers' triple-option attack and it wasn't until Clemson's Rennie Moore stopped Donovan Johnson on fourth-and-2 with 3:30 left that the Tigers could rest easy against Wofford (1-1), the defending Southern Conference co-champions.
Boyd had touchdown throws of 42 yards to Martavis Bryant, 38 yards to Sammy Watkins and 17 yards to DeAndre Hopkins. Ellilngton added a 74-yard TD run, the longest of his career. Ellington's total yards were one short of his career high, set last season against Georgia Tech.
Clemson will host the Auburn Tigers on Saturday September 17 with a noon kickoff.
