Coastal Carolina 30 Furman 23
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers beat the Furman Paladins 30-23 to open the 2011 college football season at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday before a crowd of 8,633. It was CCU's first season opening victory since 2005.
With the game tied 23-23, Coastal Carolina quarterback Aramis Hillary capped a 71-yard drive by scoring the game-winner on a 3 yard TD run with just 92 seconds left in the game. Hillary was 10 of 13 passing for 124 yards.
Coastal Carolina controlled the football on offense, running off 81 plays and holding the ball for more than 36 minutes. CCU had no turnovers and was penalized only twice.
CCU is now 2-1 lifetime against Furman. The Chants will host Catawba on Saturday, September 10 at 6 p.m. at Brooks Stadium in Conway.
