Big South Media Days were held in Charlotte and on Thursday the preseason poll was released. Coastal Carolina was picked to finish third in the league with Liberty and Stony Brook ahead of them. The Flames are the preseason favorite for the fifth consecutive year.

In 2010, Coastal Carolina, Stony Brook and Liberty all finished in a three way tie for first with 5-1 league records. The Chants won the tiebreaker based on defensive points allowed to make the FCS playoffs for the second time in the program's history.
Junior linebacker Andrae Jacobs has been named preseason defensive player of the year. The Tabor City, NC native had 104 tackles last season and has picked up two preseason All-American honors in 2011. In all, four CCU players were named to the preseason All-conference team: Jacobs, DB Josh Norman, tight end David Duran and offensive lineman Jamey Cheatwood.
