Carson Young from Pendleton, South Carolina and Jessica Hoang of North Augusta, South Carolina won the boys and girls 16-18 divisions at the Carolinas Junior PGA Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Myrtle Beach on Friday. Both golfers have qualified for the 36th Junior PGA Championships. This year's event will be held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana in August.
Young shot 1-under par 71 on Thursday. He followed with a tournament low 5-under par 68 on Friday to win the boys division by four strokes. Aynor High's Johnson Holliday finished 6-over par for the two day event ending up tied for 16th.
Hoang won a playoff with Rachel Moore of Lexington, South Carolina. Hoang parred the first hole of sudden death to win the overall girls title, while Moore bogeyed after hitting into a water hazard.
Drew Weary of Bluffton, South Carolina won the boys 12 and under division. Jonathan Hardee of Greer, Sourth Carolina won the boys 13-15 division. Annika Bovender of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina won the 13-15 girls division.
Past Junior PGA Championship competitors include Stewart Cink, Jim Furyk, Cristie Kerr, Phil Mickelson, Dottie Pepper and Tiger Woods.
