South Carolina won its second consecutive national championship with a 5-2 win over Florida on Tuesday night in Omaha. The Gamecocks win the best of three national championship series over the Gators two games to none.
The Gamecocks become the first team to ever go 10-0 in an NCAA Tournament and are the first team to go back to back in Omaha since Oregon State did it in 2006 and 2007. South Carolina has a win streak of 16 consecutive NCAA tournament wins and 11 straight in Omaha which are both records.
South Carolina tallied three runs in the third inning on a Scott Wingo sacrifice fly, a Christian Walker chopper to short that was ruled an error, and a Brady Thomas infield single.
Michael Roth pitched 7 2/3 innings on three days rest. He gave up a solo homer to Mike Zunino in the 4th and gives up two earned runs on the night. He finishes his junior campaign with an amazing 1.06 ERA.
Scott Wingo had an RBI single in the 8th to give the Gamecocks an insurance run. The second baseman was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. Matt Price got the final four outs to secure the Gamecocks second straight national title.
