South Carolina's only PGA Tour event has been saved after the Heritage has found a pair of sponsors to keep the historic tournament on the PGA Tour schedule for the next five years. RBC bank will be the title sponsor with Boeing as the presenting local sponsor. The tournament, which was played two weeks after the Masters in 2011, will return to its normal slot the week after the Masters.
On the 18th green following Brandt Snedeker's win in the 2011 Heritage, South Carolina governor Nikki Haley vowed that the tournament would find a title sponsor and remain on the PGA Tour's schedule. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem credited Haley for leading the charge to find a new sponsor.
"This is a great day in South Carolina, and we're going to celebrate," said Gov. Haley at a press conference on Thursday in Hilton Head. "We said from day one that finding a private sponsor for The Heritage was one of this administration's top priorities because the tournament is an opportunity for us to showcase our state as one of this country's premier destinations for business and tourists and that we shouldn't rely on taxpayers to foot the bill."
