20-year old right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles, a product of Hartsville High, will make his major league debut for the Houston Astros on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Astros made the move after placing left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list because of fluid in his left elbow joint. To make room for Lyles on Houston's 40-man roster, the Astros transferred catcher Jason Castro to the 60-day disabled list.

Lyles is 3-3 in ten starts for the Oklahoma City RedHawks with a 3.20 ERA. The 6'4" Lyles has been impressive in his last seven starts. He was 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA and hurled six innings of shutout ball in his last start on May 25th in a 5-1 victory at Fresno.

Lyles was the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Year at age 19 in 2010. He was originally picked in the supplemental first round of the 2008 June Draft. He was a three sport star at Hartsville High in baseball, football and basketball. In 2007, Lyles led the Red Foxes to the AAAA State Baseball Championship. He was a WPDE Zoneman finalist as a wide receiver in football and a two-time WPDE All-Hoop Zone selection in basketball.
