Johnsonville's Savannah Gaster made headlines as a member of WPDE's All-Hoop Zone team, but the Lady Flashes star is even more talented in volleyball. On Wednesday, Gaster signed a national letter of intent to play for the UNC-Charlotte 49ers. Gaster helped Johnsonville to three class 1A state runner-up finishes in her high school career.
Savannah had a weighted GPA of 4.6 and looks to study nursing while playing college volleyball in the Atlantic 10.
YouTube: Savannah Gaster interview at WPDE Hoop Zone BanquetWPDE Sports Director Rich Chrampanis was at Savannah's signing at Johnsonville High School:
We put a lot of emphasis on high school football and basketball on the sportscasts, so I especially enjoy getting a chance to shine the spotlight on athletes in different sports. Savannah Gaster is a role model for any young lady in our area on putting in hard work both in the classroom and in athletics and having it pay off with a scholarship.
When working on the Hoop Zone banquet, Mark Haggard came across Savannah's blog which was the ultimate resume. The video shows that she is without a doubt a Division I volleyball talent, but I was more impressed with what Savannah wrote in her bio. Looking at that page would make any college coach want to have Savannah as a part of their program.
