Coastal Carolina defensive end Quinton Davis has been granted a medical hardship waiver. This gives the Georgia native three more years of eligiblity to play for the Chanticleers. Davis was redshirted in his freshman year and went on to play 11 games in 2009 registering three sacks. 2010 found Davis on the preseason All Big South team, but his season was cut short in Coastal Carolina's loss to Georgia Southern in week three. Davis went down with an ankle injury that required season ending surgery. Davis has missed all of the spring workouts as he continues rehabilitation. He's expected to be ready for the start of summer training camp in August.

WPDE Sports Director Rich Chrampanis, host of the David Bennett Show, offers his analysis on Davis getting an additional year:
This is a great boost to Coastal. During pre-season camp, you could have a great argument about who the hardest hitter on the CCU defense was. It came down to Quinton Davis and Andrae Jacobs. The concencus was that no one was interested in getting in the way of both guys. Like Jacobs, the Big South defensive player of the year, Quinton has a tremendous motor. I saw this motor first hand in training camp when after two grueling workouts and a 16 hour day, Davis came over to my camera and did a backflip saying "Good night, see you in the AM" and running off the practice field. It's an attribute that coaches wish could be in every single player on the roster. The real dividends will come in 2013 when Davis will be an elite player in the Big South as a senior. I will be keeping a close eye on him at training camp to see if he is back at 100 percent.
