Coastal Carolina held a situational scrimmage at Brooks Stadium in Conway on Saturday morning. Quarterbacks Jamie Childers and Cody Craig both led touchdown drives. Childers threw two TD passes. Number one starter on the depth chart Aramis Hillary and Logan Hall both failed to get the offense into the end zone during their turns at quiarterback. CCU head coach David Bennett said both Childers and Hillary showed great leadership skills during the two hour session.
Chanticleers wide receiver Matt Hazel was clearly the top offensive star with several long catches including one for a touchdown. Wide receiver Dushawn Davis, a 2006 WPDE All-Zone selection out of Mullins, caught a TD pass from Childers and Craig ran for another score.
Several players were held out of the scrimmage including All-Big South Conference tight end David Duran who will miss next Saturday's Spring Game with a broken bone in his fibula. All-Big South offensive tackle Jamey Cheatwood is also injured and will miss the April 2nd spring finale.
Two other players missed the scrimmage. Defensive tackle Dexter Holman has back spasms and defensive end Dominique Whiteside has a hyper-extended knee. Both are expected to suit up for the spring game.
Coastal Carolina will take a break until Wednesday. The Chants will workout again on Thursday and Friday. They will cap off a series of 15 practice sessions with the spring game on Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon at Brooks Stadium.
