The Hemingway Tigers boys basketball team nearly blew a 16 point second half lead at Carvers Bay on Thursday night. But Azrial Moye led the Tigers with 17 points, including a key basket in the final minute of regulation, in a 79-74 upset win over the Bears to finish the regular season schedule.

Defending class A state champion Hemingway avoided being swept in the regular season by Carvers Bay for the first time in the history of the series despite 17 points from Da'Shaun Aiken and 16 from WPDE All-Hoop Zone selection Tyrone Brown.

Carvers Bay clinched the Region VIII-A regular season championship earlier in the week. Carvers Bay will be the top seed out of the region. Creek Bridge beat Green Sea-Floyds 72-68 to wrap up the number two seed for the Warriors. Hemingway will be a 3-seed in the post season. Johnsonville captured the 4-seed after winning a tie-breaker with Green Sea-Floyds for the final playoff berth in Region VIII.

Vic Williams scored 28 points and Charles Green added 23 for Creek Bridge on Thursday. Damion King countered with 25 points and Larry Wideman tallied 21 in a losing effort for Green Sea-Floyds.
