WPDE Zoneman winner Shon Carson from Lake City earns MVP leading South Carolina to a 42-10 win in the Shrine Bowl.
(AP) -- The South Carolina All-Stars beat the North Carolina All-Stars 42-10 in the Shrine Bowl, played at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg on Sunday. Lake City running back Shon Carson who is a Gamecocks commitment, rushed 16 times for 82 yards with one touchdown and was named the offensive MVP.
The South Carolina Stars scored on a 3-yard pass from Dexter Staley to Jerrell Adams out of Scott's Branch with 51 seconds left in the half. Adams scored three touchdowns on the day.
South Carolina opened the second half with Quinn Baccus out of Greenwood scoring on a 33-yard interception. South Carolina spotted the Tar Heels a 10-0 lead in the first period with offensive mistakes including an interception by Brandon Ellerbe for a 44-yard touchdown.
South Pointe's Jadeveon Clowney who was recently named South Carolina's Mr. Football, was named the South Carolina defensive MVP. Clowney made five tackles inlcuding two for loss and three sacks.
Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson who is bound for Notre Dame, threw a TD pass for South Carolina. The Sandlappers (South Carolina), have won three of the last four Shrine Bowls and hold a 41-28-4 lifetime advantage.
