Davenport & MacDowall to play in FCS Senior Scout Bowl

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina quarterback Zach MacDowall and safety Dominique Davenport have been selected to play in the inaugural FCS Senior Scout Bowl, held this Saturday (Dec. 11) in Metro New York City.

The FCS Senior Scout Bowl is organized by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) and will showcase the talent of FCS Division Senior Football players. Eighty-six players will compose two teams in a North vs. South format All-Star game.

MacDowall, a second team All-Big South selection, closed the 2010 season as perhaps the hottest quarterback in the nation, leading Coastal Carolina to four straight wins, a share of the Big South Championship and a berth to the NCAA Division I Football Championship - earning the first-ever automatic berth to the playoffs for a Big South program.

MacDowall scored the winning touchdown in overtime at Gardner-Webb to spark the season-ending streak then led the Chanticleers to convincing wins over VMI, #11 Liberty and Charleston Southern. Over that three-game span, he was named National Player of the Week (vs. Liberty) and one of three National Performers of the Week (vs. Charleston Southern. Also, during the three-game span, MacDowall was responsible for 13 touchdowns (three rushing and 10 passing) while completing 58-of-81 passes (.715) for 884 yards with just one interception.

At VMI, MacDowall completed a school-record 16 passes and his 18 completions in the game went to 11 different receivers. He finished the game 18-of-24 with a late interception, two TDs and 254 passing yards. The following week, he was named both Big South and National Player of the Week in the Liberty win. He was 25-of-37, tying his own school record with 382 passing yards, with three TDs through the air and one rushing. He closed the season, leading CCU to a 70-3 win over Charleston Southern and earning national recognition again, completing 15-of-20 passes for 248 yards with a Big South-record five TDs passing and one rushing. Earlier in the season, MacDowall was also tabbed Big South Offensive Player of the Week for leading Coastal to a win at Presbyterian. In that contest, he completed 11-of-21 passes for 204 yards and three TDs while rushing for 97 yards with a score. He also had a big game in a loss to Georgia Southern, breaking his own school record with 27 completions (41 attempts) while passing for 314 yards and three TDs.

MacDowall ended 2010 by completing 211-of-347 passes for 2,632 yards with 20 touchdowns, while rushing for eight scores. He ranks 19th in the NCAA FCS for total offense (250.83 ypg) and 29th nationally in passing efficiency (13.432). MacDowall was second in the Big South - behind 2010 Big South Offensive Player of the Year Mike Brown of Liberty - for total offense, TD responsibility (28), passing (219.3 ypg), completion percentage (60.8), and passing TDs (20).

In addition to the single-game school records set (completions, TDs and yards), MacDowall set Coastal Carolina career records for completions (494), completion percentage (59.4), passing efficiency (133.5) and total offense yards per game (210.0 avg.), while ranking second all-time (behind current NFLQB Tyler Thigpen) in passing yards, passing TDs. He additionally ranks fourth on the CCU career list with 16 rushing TDs and ninth in rushing yards (779).

For his career, MacDowall completed 494-of-832 passes for 6,360 with 45 TDs, while amassing 7,139 yards of total offense - also second on the CCU career list. He was a five-time Big South Offensive Player of the Week honoree for his career.

Davenport was a first team All-Big South pick in 2010. His six interceptions ranked second in the Big South and 16th (tied) in the NCAA FCS. He set a school record and tied for the FCS national lead in 2010 with two interceptions returned for TDs. Also, he helped CCU set a Big South record with four pick six's in a season. He added five pass break-ups and ranked fourth in the Big South in passes defended (11 total - 0.92 per game), while ranking 17th in the Big South and third on the team in tackles (67 total - 5.6 per game). Davenport led a defense which ranked second in the Big South and 36th in the FCS in pass efficiency defense (116.7).

Davenport was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week for his play in a win at Gardner-Webb. He registered 11 tackles, including a half TFL, with a pass break-up and game-turning, 28-yard interception return for a touchdown. In the season finale - Coastal's 17-10 loss to Western Illinois in the NCAA Division I Football Championship, Davenport had seven tackles, all solo, with two interceptions, including a 17-yard pick six for the Chants' lone touchdown n the game. Davenport added interceptions at West Virginia, Richmond and Presbyterian. Davenport also turned in a big game versus Georgia Southern, getting 10 tackles with two PBU.

Davenport's six picks in 2010 ranks second on the CCU season list while his 67 tackles ranks 11th. For his career, Davenport was credited with 258 tackles (third on the CCU all-time list) with nine interceptions (fifth on the CCU all-time list). He was a two-time Big South Defensive Player of the Week honoree for his career, earning National Defensive Player of the Week honors once, as was the Big South Freshman of the Week once in 2006.
