CLEMSON, SC - Clemson will face South Florida in the ninth-annual Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, NC on December 31 at 12:00 PM, announced Sunday. The game will be played at Bank of America Stadium, the home of the NFL's Carolina Panthers, and will be televised live by ESPN. Clemson and South Florida have never met on the gridiron. The Tigers have also never played in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
Clemson is 16-16 all-time in bowl games and won its most recent bowl game against Kentucky by a score of 21-13 in the 2009 Music City Bowl. The Bulls are 2-2 all-time in bowl games, with their last bowl appearance in the 2008 Saint Petersburg Bowl, a 41-10 win over Memphis. South Florida's first-ever bowl game was a 14-0 loss to N.C. State in the 2005 Meineke Car Care Bowl, the Bulls' only appearance in that bowl game.
Clemson has a 6-6 overall record and a 4-4 ACC mark in 2010. In the Tigers' four ACC wins, they outscored their opponents by 59 points (14.8 points per win). In Clemson's four ACC losses, it was outscored by just 23 point (5.8 points per loss). The Tigers also took #15 Auburn to overtime on the road in a 27-24 loss on September 18, while Clemson defeated #23 N.C. State 14-13 on November 6.
Clemson leads the ACC and is ninth in the country in scoring defense (17.8) and has allowed just eight touchdowns by the opponents' offenses in the past seven games. The Tigers are also third in the ACC and 23rd in the nation in total defense (323.8)
