COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Everett Golson threw three touchdown passes and Myrtle Beach took advantage of a South Pointe fumble to score a fourth-quarter touchdown and win the South Carolina Class AAA football championship, 27-23, over the Stallions on Saturday night.
The victory was the Seahawks' second state title in three years and completed a 14-1 season. South Pointe closed its year at 13-2. Golson, headed to Notre Dame, had scoring passes of 3 and 28 yards to Jaquan Wilson and the game-winner, a 20-yarder to Dallas Goodman, with 6:48 to play.
Myrtle Beach trailed after three quarters, but a 4-yard scoring run by Daiquone Ford with 8:47 remaining cut South Pointe's lead to 23-21 and set the stage for the final score.
Myrtle Beach defensive tackle Ervin Brown recovered a South Pointe fumble at the Stallions' 24 and set up Golson's game-winning touchdown pass. Myrtle Beach has now won six state football championships.
