Chanticleers Sign Three Myrtle Beach Products to National Letters-of-Intent
CONWAY-The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball program and Head Coach Alan LeForce have announced the signings of local products Shatia Cole, Keyaurna Wilson and Di’Anja Hunter, all of Myrtle Beach High School, to National Letters-of-Intent.
The three key members of the Myrtle Beach High 2009-10 Class AAA state championship girls basketball team will have the unique opportunity to continue their success together at the collegiate level. This is the first time in Coastal Carolina women’s basketball history that three student-athletes from one high school will suit up for the Chanticleers together.
“We are very pleased with these three athletes,” LeForce said. “These players have proven over and over that they have what it takes to win and we look forward to seeing them on campus. They have good size and athletic ability that will mesh well with the current team. This might be one of our best recruiting classes we’ve had in my 14 years here.”
Cole, who was tabbed to the S.C. Coaches Association 3A All-State team, is a 5-foot-4 guard that averaged 13.8 points, 2.3 assists, 3.4 steals and 4.3 rebounds per game this past year, made 16 of 50 3-pointers and shot 73 percent from the free throw line last season. She enters her senior campaign this fall ranked as one of the top five senior prospects in Class AAA by the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association.
Hunter is a 5-foot-11 power forward who averaged 9.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 2.0 steals per game, and shot exactly 50 percent from the field as a junior.
Wilson, a 5-9 small forward, averaged 10.7 points, 2.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game and shot 75 percent from the free throw line during her junior campaign.
Due in large part to the successes of the future Chanticleers, Myrtle Beach High School has been tabbed the preseason favorite to repeat as Class AAA champions. Coastal will open the 2010-11 season as hosts to Southern Virginia on Nov. 12 to kick off the program’s final home season in Kimbel Arena before moving to the new Convocation Center next season.
