High school basketball practice does not begin until Monday, but there's already a big headline before the first ball is bounced.

The South Carolina High School League has handed down sanctions against the Myrtle Beach boys basketball program.

The SCHSL confirms to WPDE Sports that sanctions were given to the Myrtle Beach boys basketball program on Wednesday.

The league said the details of the suspension will be announced by Myrtle Beach High Principal Nona Kerr.

SCHSL Executive Director Jerome Singleton is quoted in the Myrtle Beach Sun News saying that the Seahawks boys have been banned for the post-season as a result of an illegal practice.

WPDE Sports contacted Myrtle Beach Athletic Director Doug Terry who had no comment other than to say that the school will go through the details of the sanctions with players and parents at a 6:30 p.m. meeting on Monday.

Myrtle Beach won the 3A state championship in 2008 and lost in the first round of the 3A playoffs in 2010.
