Myrtle Beach resident Dustin Johnson has finished tied for fifth at the PGA Championship. The former Coastal Carolina All-American took the lead with a birdie on 17. But Johnson ran into trouble on 18 taking a two shot penalty for grounding his club in a bunker. Johnson said he was not aware that the surface he was hitting from was a hazard because the grass around it had been trampled by the gallery. He was forced to put a triple bogey seven on his scorecard taking him out of a playoff with two other players. Johnson shot a 1-over par 73 final round and was 9-under par for the tournament at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. It was the most significant ruling at a major since Roberto de Vicenzo's scorecard error at the 1968 Masters.
25-year old Martin Kaymer from Dusseldorf, Germany won the PGA Championship in a three-hole playoff with Bubba Watson. Kaymer captured the Wannamaker Trophy in golf's final major tournament of the season at the 92nd edition of the PGA Championship.
