The Lumberton American 11-12 year old All-Stars won an elimination game 3-2 against Smiths Station, Alabama Tuesday night at the Dixie Majors World Series. Lumberton advances to play Louisiana in another elimination game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Lumberton scored three times in the second inning highlighted by home runs from Austin Swirderski and Austin Hayes. Gage Hardin pitched four relief innings to pick up the win.
Lumberton has won three out of four games in the tournament which is being played in Gonzales, Louisiana. They have beaten teams from Florida, Texas and Alabama with their lone loss to Oberlin, Louisiana. Lumberton must win their next two games to make it into the championship. Only five teams of the original twelve in this tournament are still in contention for the Dixie Majors World Series title. Surfside Beach (SC) was eliminated on day three.
