Palmetto Pigskin's Georgetown Preview

Tyronne Davis has set the table for Bradley Adams.  Now it’s time for the new Georgetown coach to take the Bulldogs to the next level.  Davis spent two seasons in Georgetown before taking the job in county to coach Waccamaw.  Now, Georgetown has a fiery young coach to lead the Bulldogs in 2010.
Adams, 30, is a Loris native who played linebacker at Newberry.  After a couple of years as an assistant around the Pee Dee, he returned to Newberry as an assistant coach in 2007.  Last year he was an assistant at West Florence high school under Trey Woodberry.
Adams runs a very up-tempo practice. “We will be doing nothing on a slow pace,” says Adams. “We’re going to get done in two hours what it takes other teams to get done in three hours.” It took the entire spring, but the players slowly have gotten used to what Adams is trying to get out of them. “The kids are beginning to impress me. They are beginning to make me smile daily.”
Adams is looking for a few key players to help lead the team, including lineman Darius Brown and wideout Jasmar Heyward who also contributed on defense with four interceptions.  Building on what Davis already implemented, Adams will depend on an offensive line to pound people and lead a hard-nosed running game led by Leonard Leak.  At the same time, the Bulldogs should throw it more than last year.
The Bulldogs went just 2-8 last year, and didn’t score more than 10 points in any of their eight losses. But Davis never made anything easy for his players. Adams is not planning to either.  “The biggest thing is you have to play with tough men. Anyone that’s not tough, we’re going to cut ties. We have to have a strong nucleus and core.” If the Bulldogs can buy in to what Adams is selling, the Dogs could find their way back to the playoffs sooner rather than later.
