When it comes to football royalty in South Carolina, it doesn't get much better than Upstate power Gaffney. The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs turned to Indians offensive coordinator Perry Woolbright to take over for Denver Cromer.  He sees great potential to make North Myrtle Beach a power of its own.
“It definitely has the potential to be a traditional powerhouse ever year,” Woolbright said.  “The biggest thing is getting established and getting everyone on the same page from the middle school to the high school.”
Eleven starters are back on a 4 win team. The Chiefs are getting ready to play fast break football and play 3-4 on defense. Timmy Bellamy was a versatile performer for the Chiefs last year. He may play quarterback along with Clint Cole, but no matter what, Bellamy will get the ball in his hands this season. Woolbridge also wants to employ the tight end more in the offense and that should should mean more chances for Temmarick Hemingway. Look for Brandon Johnson to take the featured back role in place of the departed Kelton Chestnut and Timmaine Bellamy.
Zach Crowl should continue the tradition of All-Zone kickers with one of the strongest legs in the area.  North Myrtle Beach has produced former Gamecocks kicker Daniel Weaver and current Boston College punter and kicker Ryan Quigley.
Five starters are back on a defense that gave up over 25 points per game. Woolbright hopes his veterans can set the tone for what's to come at North Myrtle Beach.
“The thing I like most about this team is that everybody helps each other out in their own special way,” Temarrick Hemingway said.  “Everybody brings something special to the table.”
North Myrtle Beach will need to bring something special to compete with Wilson and Myrtle Beach for the top spots in the “Beach Region”.
