The Murrells Inlet legion baseball team was the eighth seed in the 8 team state legion tournament. After losing their opener on Friday, Murrells Inlet reeled off four straight wins to reach the championship game. On Wednesday in Columbia, Murrells Inlet took on Sumter - the winner would advance to the Southeast regionals in Columbia, Tennessee next week.

First inning -- Murrells Inlet gets on the board -- off a wild pitch -- Nick Hotzelt scores from third to give the Tides a 1-0 lead
In the 2nd inning -- sumter rallies -- Trent Pannell with a solid single to center -- plates a run for Post 15. Sumter later tacked on another run to take a 2-1 lead.
In the 5th -- Murrells Inlet ties it back up -- Jason Tomlinson out of Socastee hits a fly to right -- the ball is misplayed for a base hit -- Dalton Novia races home with the equalizer
In the 7th -- Sumter's Tyler Smith lifts a fly ball to right -- it falls just inside the foul line for a single -- Zack Sherrill scores the go-ahead run. Sumter added another run to go up 4-2.
In the 9th -- Murrells Inlet down to their final out with the tying run at the plate -- but Tomlinson grounds out to end the game. 4-2 Sumter holds on to beat Murrells Inlet. Sumter Post 15 wins the American Legion state championship.
