In June, the Myrtle Beach Seahawks went to the Carolina Panthers seven on seven passing league tournament and finished in first place giving them a berth in the NFL's national 7 on 7 passing league tournament next week in Tampa, but the Seahawks have turned down the NFL's invitation.
Everett Golson and Myrtle Beach beat Spartanburg high school in the finals of that tournament in Charlotte last month, the Seahawks won their 4th of July shootout on Thursday night at Doug Shaw stadium beating Sparatanburg once again in the championship game. When the NFL told Myrtle Beach head coach Mickey Wilson that he couldn't bring all of his players, the Seahawks turned down the invite. Wilson told WPDE Sports that 24 players and six coaches went to Charlotte to compete and win the Panthers 7 on 7 tourney. The NFL told him that only 12 players and 2 coaches were allowed to be part of the national event. Wilson said his captain's voted that if the entire team that competed in Charlotte could not go to Tampa they would turn down the invitation. Spartanburg will go to Tampa next week to compete in the tournament.
