As Gamecocks fans wait to hear if Clifton Geathers is leaving Columbia for the NFL, USC's other Cliff is staying put. Former WPDE Zoneman finalist Cliff Matthews told WPDE sports today, that he'll be back for his senior season with the Gamecocks. Matthews was projected to be a first day NFL draft pick if he were to leave USC this year, but the Gamecocks captain will be back in 2010 for South Carolina where he could become a first round draft pick in 2011. The defensive end had 47 tackles and 7 sacks for USC this season.
