FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — NASCAR's year-ending awards celebration could be moving from New York to Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the city's Convention and Visitors Authority had reached an initial agreement to host the Sprint Cup awards banquet, beginning this year.

NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston says Las Vegas presents some interesting options, but that nothing has been finalized for the event in December.

Cup driver Jeff Burton says he is a proponent for any move that adds more excitement and provides for more fan involvement in the year-end event that has been held in New York since 1981.
