(AP) -- SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina scored three touchdowns in the second half to defeat North Carolina 24-16 in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. South Carolina trailed 16-3 at halftime but scored the only points in the second. In the third quarter, Dorman's Walter Canty scored on a 9-yard run to cap a four-play, 80-yard drive. He was named South Carolina's defensive MVP, with four tackles, including two for a loss. He returned four punts for 55 yards. In the fourth quarter, Northwestern's Jarrett Neely scored on a 14-yard run. And Jerrodd Williams of Daniel High School returned an interception 59 yards. The quarterbacks were named offensive MVPs - Stephon Gilmore for South Carolina and Desmond Lowery for North Carolina. South Mecklenburg linebacker Spencer Shuey was the North Carolina defensive MVP.
