For the tenth straight year, Barefoot Resort's Dye Course hosted Hootie and the Blowfish's Monday after the Masters Tournament. The event is now in its 18th year and has raised over $5,000,000 for a number of South Carolina charities. Former Gamecocks and NFL star Sterling Sharpe teamed with PGA pro Ken Duke to win the event with a score of -20 under 52.
The celebrity long drive competition featured singer Javier Colon, winner of NBC's The Voice, and actor Alfonso Ribeiro top 300 yards, but they were long behind the top number of 359 by former CCU quarterback and current Buffalo Bills backup Tyler Thigpen. ESPN's Mike and Mike morning radio and TV show broadcast from the Grand Strand for the second straight year.
Among the golf professionals in the field were Bishopville's Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey who is set to head to Hilton Head for the RBC Heritage Open later on this week as well as Conway native and LPGA Tour member Kristy McPherson. LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam and former US Open champion Jim Furyk, fresh off an 11th place finish at the Masters were back for repeat appearances on the Grand Strand. Former Coastal Carolina golfer Zack Byrd, who made his debut on the Nationwide Tour in 2012 was also in the field.
