The biggest names in NASCAR are going to dominate the sports headlines at Darlington this weekend, but on Thursday night it was a trio of big names coming to Myrtle Beach Speedway for a unique charity race to benefit the Victory Junction Camp.

Kyle Petty, Denny Hamlin and Michael Waltrip came to the short track to watch some Late Model racing and the chance to participate in a skid plate race.  Beat up cars with just two wheels in the front and metal plates in place of rear wheels sparked the track in a four lap showdown.  Waltrip had the left blinker on during his entire run and saw his car die on turn one while Hamlin was a lap down, yet was able to do a victory burnout which was the highlight of the exhibition race.  Truck series driver Jason White was the winner of the four lap showdown.

Hamlin, driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota, said he was grateful to get the opportunity to support the Victory Junction Camp.  He was hoping for a few more laps as he jokingly complained about the handling of his Volvo.  The 2010 Southern 500 winner also said that Darlington will be a very different beast than what he tangled with on the Grand Strand.  Hamlin and Waltrip enjoyed 18 holes of golf in Myrtle Beach before coming to the Speedway.  It was the second night of racing in the 2012 season at Myrtle Beach Speedway, which is now under new ownership.
