He was a basketball and football star at Myrtle Beach High school. Now, Everett Golson is the starting quarterback at Notre Dame, and ready to play in the BCS National Championship game on January 7th against Alabama.

On Wednesday night, Golson was honored by the City of Myrtle Beach during the Beach Ball Classic high school basketball tournament at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Mayor John Rhodes proclaimed January 7, Everett Golson Day in Myrtle Beach.

Golson told NewsChannel 15 Sports that he's healthy and optimistic about Notre Dame's chances of pulling off an upset against favored Alabama. Golson said, "We're definately confident, us as a team, just really want to go in and execute our plan, and just kind of look up at the scoreboard and see what happens after that."

Golson was back on the Grand Strand for a short visit, to celebrate Christmas with his family, before leaving on Thursday to prepare for the BCS National Championship.

Golson will celebrate his 20th birthday on January 2nd, just five days before playing for all the marbles in college football at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
