Coastal Carolina put shovels in the ground on Tuesday as the next major step towards a new baseball and softball stadium.  The $10 million dollar project is slated to debut in 2014.  The CCU baseball team is playing its games this season at TicketReturn.Com Field, home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.  At the groundbreaking ceremony, Coastal Carolina University President Dr. David DeCenzo talked about a meeting he had four years ago with baseball coach Gary Gilmore when he was offered the baseball job at Auburn.  Gilmore, who just celebrated his 700th win at Coastal Carolina, turned down the SEC offer and DeCenzo promised him to get the Chanticleers a facility that will put them on par with top 25 baseball programs across the country.

The new baseball stadium is slated to have 2,500 permanent seats with seating areas that can hold over 5,000.  The new stadium will give CCU the ability to host NCAA Regional and Super Regional games.  CCU has hosted just one NCAA regional on campus during its long run of post-season appearances.  The softball facility will feature 500 permanent seats and be adjacent to the new baseball home.
