Six Falcons with South Carolina ties in NFC Championship

The Atlanta Falcons defeated the Seattle Seahawks 30-28 in an NFC Divisional Playoff game on Sunday at The Georgia Dome.Six players on the Falcons roster, with ties to the state of South Carolina, will play in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday, January 20 at 3 p.m. in Atlanta.

Cheraw High product and 2007 Mister Hoop Zone winner and 2006 Zoneman Finalist Cliff Matthews made two tackles against the Seahawks. Matthews is one of  four Falcons who attended the University of South Carolina.

Lamar High grad John Abraham, who registered ten sacks this season, is in his 13th season in the NFL and the league's active career sack leader. Abraham, who was born in Timmonsville, is second on the South Carolina Gamecocks career sack list.

Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson is a nine year veteran, and defensive tackle Travian Robertson, now in his second NFL season, are both former Gamecocks.

Atlanta tight end Michael Palmer out of Clemson is in his third NFL season.

The Falcons all-time leading receiver is Roddy White, who played at James Island High, located south of Charleston, South Carolina. White has more yards than any receiver in the NFL since 2007.
