The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers football team scrimmaged for 45 minutes on Sunday at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. It was the first 11-on-11 full contact for the Chants this spring.

Defense dominated the scrimmage. No touchdows were scored. Akeem Wesley blocked a punt and Marcellus Hunter intercepted a pass thrown by former South Carolina Gamecock and last year's starting quarterback at CCU, Aramis Hillary.

Hillary is working with the number one offense and will likely be named the starter at the end of the spring. But that decision has not been made according to head coach Joe Moglia.

Hillary, and back-up quarterbacks Cody Craig and Alex Ross were able to move the ball through the air. But all three quarterbacks failed to engineer a trip to the end zone.

Former Wilson High wide receiver  and WPDE All-Zone selection John Israel caught several passes. Ditto for Niccolo Mastromatteo, who looked solid playing slot receiver. Kenny Jones, Tyrell Banks and Shaquille Lindsey all caught passes of 16 yards or more during the scrimmage.

The running game was stifled by the defense for most of the scrimmage. Moglia said,"I've been pleased with the effort, I've been pleased with the intensity. We've got a long way to go."

Coastal Carolina has now held eight of 15 workouts this spring. They will hold a second scrimmage on Saturday. CCU's Spring Game will be held on Sunday April 14 at 1 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
