The Hartsville Red Foxes football team won the South Carolina Class 3A State Championship, with a 62-27 victory over the Union County Yellow Jackets on Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, before a crowd of more than 15,000 fans.
Hartsville jumped out to a 28-7 first quarter lead and never looked back. The two teams combined for 905 yards of total offense.
Tre Rogers led the Red Foxes with five touchdowns on the night. All three Hartsville backs, Rogers, Trey Samuel, and Dominic Robinson scored.
Rogers finished with 110 rushing yards. Samuel led the way with 274 yards on the ground and two scores. On defense, Hartsville's Fisher Payne scored on a 91-yard interception just before halftime to put the Red Foxes ahead 48-20, heading to the locker room.
Hartsville won a state title in football for the fourth time in school history. It is the school's first 3A championship in the sport, and first since 1988. They finished the 2012 season with a 15-0 record.
The Hartsville players remembered former teammate Ronald Rouse, a 320 pound lineman, who died back in October of sudden cardiac arrhythmia brought on by a congenital enlarged heart. The Red Foxes ran through a banner with Rouse's number 74 and the words "The Win Beneath Our Wings."
