Lateek Towsend is leaving the Clemson football program after two seasons with limited playing time.  Tigernet.com broke the story on Thursday morning.  On his twitter page, Townsend posted "Clemson Football will always be apart (sic) of me!"

Townsend played just seven games in his sophomore campaign primarily on special teams.  He was Clemson's leader in tackles on special teams in 2011 when he played in eight games.  He was supposed to redshirt in his freshman year, but had to serve a four game suspension for impermissable benefits from a high school coach.  Clemson has depth at the linebacker position.  With Townsend departure, there are 11 players in the mix including commitments in the 2013 Signing Day mix.  Clemson has two other local products in its linebacking corps - Quandon Christian of Lake View (starter) and Lamar sophomore BJ Goodson.

The Marlboro County standout was a US Army All-American and rated as one of the top linebacker prospects in the country.  He was a 2011 WPDE Zoneman Finalist.
