A traffic stop and drug investigation earlier this week led to a major marijuana seizure in Horry County.

On Wednesday, a traffic stop was conducted for a speeding violation on Hwy. 501 near Pee Dee Highway by members of the Horry County Police Department's newly created Street Crimes Unit.

During the traffic stop, a Narcotics detecting K-9 indicated the presence of illegal drugs inside the car.

Investigators searched the car and found approximately 50 pounds of marijuana.

Both people in the vehicle were arrested and taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Richard Anzel Harrelson, 62 and Ricky Lee Harrelson, 37, both of Conway, are charged with Trafficking Marijuana more than 10 Pounds and Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana.

Richard Harrelson is also charged with Driving Too Fast for Conditions.

Both are out of jail on bond.
