A fire has destroyed Piney Grove Holiness Church in Dillon County. Firefighters say a neighbor called 911 after seeing massive flames coming from the church on Small Road in the Sellers community.

The church was a block, stone building and had been in the community for more than 30 years, according to firefighters. They say about a dozen parishioners attended Piney Grove and they're devastated over the fire.

The Dillon County Sheriff's Department and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating, but haven't pinpointed a cause just yet. "Every fire is suspicious until you find out what's going on," said Investigator Allan Rogers, Dillon County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies have spent most of the day going through ashes and remnants of the house of worship to help come up with a preliminary cause.
