Lumberton Police Detective Duane Hunter died Monday morning of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident Sunday.

Hunter crashed his motorcycle on McRainey Road near St. Pauls, according to Lumberton Police.

Officials added that he went through a curve, left the road and hit a sign warning drivers of the sharp curve.

We're told Hunter was wearing a helmet.

North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

The Lumberton police chief is expected to release more information on the wreck Monday afternoon. We will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
