Judge Edward B. Cottingham sentenced Ray McClellan, 25, to 23 years in prison for the murder of Dontae Davis, 31.

In August of 2011, McClellan shot and killed Davis while both were on the job at Oak River Mills in the Blenheim community of Marlboro County.

The two had been arguing before the shooting, but deputies never released a motive.

McClellan has been behind bars since the shooting.

During a bond hearing last June, McClellan's defense attorney said this shooting incident was his client's first brush with the law.

He says McClellan didn't have a criminal record before this incident.

He has to serve 85% of his prison sentence before he's eligible for parole.
