Officials with the SC Department of Transportation say they have dozens of trucks ready to hit the road at a moment's notice.

It took crews several hours to get the plows and salt spreaders and salt brine tanks mounted onto the trucks.

Workers make the brine at the DOT yard.

Salt is loaded into a big tub and mixed with a solution. It's then pumped it into the barrels on the trucks to be sprayed on the highway.

Crews didn't pre-treat bridges and roads this time around because they didn't think it was necessary.

Thursday night, a skeleton crew of about eight people will be available to work the roads.

"It's better to be safe than sorry. We'll have everything hooked up and if something happens, we'll be ready. But right now we're not anticipating too much, but our on call crews will be ready for tonight to come out," said Lorena Pate, SC DOT.

DOT officials say they will deploy extra trucks and crews to Marlboro and Dillon counties, if needed.
