FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) - Police are looking for the driver who crashed his pickup truck through the UPS Store on South Irby Street in Florence, just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning.
Officers say the driver left the truck inside the store and then ran away.
Police say when the driver is found, they will be arrested and charged with Hit and Run.
The store's operations manager says when he got the call about what happened, he assumed it was a minor accident.
"It was hard to believe. Not too many times you get a call saying that there's a Ford pick up truck sitting in the middle of your store. It's just, it was unbelievable that the person that did this was able to get out and run away," said David Fountain, UPS Operation's Manager.
Fountain says the building is a complete loss and isn't structurally sound.
"I think structurally the building is shot and you know the fixing and all that in there. The only thing that salvagable are, we pulling out some boxes and things that we can use at our other stores."
Store employees were able to salvage customers mail and parcels, but not much else.
"We have a store over at the old Florence mall next to Schlotzsky's Deli. We put some signs up. The main thing is we rent mail boxes. So, we had mail and parcels coming here. All that actually was removed last night. We stayed up here for several hours removing parcels, removing mail from the boxes. All that now is at our Florence Mall store. So, if you're a customer and you had a mail box here rest assured that your mail and parcels are over at our Florence Mall location," explained Foutain.
He says the South Irby Street store really meant a lot to the owners.
"This was our first store. When I started in 1995, me and my partners this is where we started. You know, there's no word to describe it. It's just destruction."
