The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office helped make Christmas a little brighter to a group of local children Saturday.

In all, 35 children were picked from Georgetown County schools by guidance counselors based on need, grades, and behavior.

The children were able to shop alongside an officer for the afternoon.

The children were each given a gift card to go shopping with donated by Dead Dog Saloon. The children were also provided with lunch by Chick-Fil-A.

Officers say this is a great way to connect with their community.

"It actually gives us a way to give back and show the kids the other side to police," said officer Tiffany Kinloch.
