For the second time in four games, Everett Golson was benched by Brian Kelly, but the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 4-0 after a 13-6 win over the Michigan Wolverines in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday night.

Golson threw an interception on his very first pass of the game and could not capitalize on four Notre Dame interceptions in the first half. The Fighting Irish only managed a field goal with Golson at the controls. When Golson threw his second interception in the first half, Kelly yanked him from the game and turned it over to 2011 starter Tommy Rees.  Rees took a fifth Notre Dame pick and turned it into the only touchdown of the game.

Golson finished 3-for-8 passing for 30 yards with two interceptions. In the post-game press conference, Kelly was brief and to the point when asked if Rees would take back his starting job. "Everett is our starter, "The coach said with a smile.

"I know there's going to be some growing pains," Golson said after the game. "There's going to be some games like this.  It's not about actually having those games, but turning it over and handling that adversity and turn it into something successful at the end of the day."

Golson said he remembers how he felt when Myrtle Beach lost to Crestwood in his freshman year in the playoffs and how he used it to motivate himself to make him a better player.  He is grateful of all the support he has gotten back home from Grand Strand fans.

Notre Dame has next week off. The Irish will face the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, October 6 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
