Charlie Brown tells WPDE Sports that he is taking over the Kingstree Jaguars football program for the rest of the 2012 season on a voluntary basis. Brown replaces Reginald Jamison, who was in his second season as Jaguars head coach. Kingstree ended a 27 game losing streak with a 13-6 home win over Scott's Branch on Friday night.
"Right, now I just want to enhance the program as best I can," Brown said. "I just have to try and put some things together, see what kind of athletes we have, and what changes we are going to make. It's a tough, tough situation. It's a challenge, but I've had a lot of challenges before."
Kingstree has this week off and will face defending 2A state champion Timberland at home on September 28th. Brown said a number of Kingstree players attended one of his free football camps in the Pee Dee over the summer. Brown last coached high school football in 2009 at Savannah High in Georgia.
Brown spent six years in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons. He was a two time Pro Bowl selection and had 25 career NFL TD catches and over 3,500 receiving yards including a touchdown reception in the Redskins Super Bowl 17 win over the Miami Dolphins.
