Dillon's Kwinton Smith will devote full attention to the Gamecocks.
Dillon High's Kwinton Smith did not sign a pro contract with the Texas Rangers by the 5 p.m. Friday deadline, after he was drafted by the team in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft. That means the Gamecocks recruit will devote his efforts to playing football and possibly baseball at the University of South Carolina.
Smith was a centerfielder and pitcher for Head Coach Gregg Dozier at Dillon High. He hit .438 with 4 homers and 13 RBI's. He had a 3-0 record on the mound with a 1.27 ERA and 35 strikeouts.
Smith had 34 catches for 564 yards and 10 TD's in his senior season for the Wildcats making the Shrine Bowl and the O-D All-American game.
