From Francis Marion Sports Information:

FLORENCE, SC – Former Francis Marion University left-handed pitcher Josh Edgin was called up from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons to join the New York Mets for that squad’s second-half opener in Atlanta on Friday.

Edgin becomes the first Patriot player to occupy a major league roster spot.  He will be taking the roster spot of injured righty Dillon Gee.

Edgin was 3-2 with one save and a 3.89 earned run average in 35 relief appearances with Buffalo.   He had fanned 40 batters in 37 innings while walking 18 and allowing 34 hits. Left-handed batters are hitting only .220 against him.

This spring, he was not originally invited to the major league camp, but later added and ultimately tossed 10 1/3 scoreless Grapefruit League innings.

He began the 2012 season at Double-A Binghamton where had two saves and a 1.42 earned run average in six appearances.

Edgin, a native of Three Springs, Pa., was picked by the Mets in the 30th round of the 2010 draft.  Earlier that year, he had posted a 6-4 record with a 4.07 ERA for the Patriots. He made 13 starts with two complete games and 65 strikeouts in 84 innings – all team highs.  In his first season (2009) at FMU after transferring from Ohio State University, he posted a 4-2 mark with a 4.04 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 69 innings.

A pair of former Francis Marion players are currently at the Triple-A level: right-handed pitcher Dylan Owen at Buffalo and outfielder Justin Greene at Charlotte (Chicago White Sox affiliate).
