WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, took one on the chin Thursday, falling 12-5 at the Winston-Salem Dash.

The game was decided in the first inning, with Myrtle Beach starter Luke Jackson allowing five runs on four hits, including two triples by Trayce Thompson and Juan Silvero.  The lead grew to 6-0 in the second inning when Marcus Semien hit another triple, scoring on a single from Carlos Sanchez.

Myrtle Beach did retaliate with a solo homerun from Jeremy Williams in the fourth, cutting the deficit to five.  It's Williams' 10th homerun of the season and second with the Pelicans.

Winston rewidened the gap in the sixth, however, plating another five runs.  That rally came off reliever Kyle DeVore and was highlighted by a triple, the season-high fourth for the Dash, by Ross Wilson and a homer by Cyle Hankered.  It was 11-1 at that point.

Myrtle Beach did put a small rally together in the top of the seventh.  With starter Blair Walters tiring, the Pelicans led off with four straight hits, scoring three runs.  Pinch hitter Cookie Castillo then pinch hit off reliever Salvador Sanchez to bring in a fourth run with a double.  Tomas Telis, Edwin Garcia and Odubel Herrera also doubled in the inning.  It was 11-5.

The Dash capped their night with a solo homerun by Juan Silverio in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-5 lead.

The loss for the Pelicans drops the Birds to a Carolina League best 11-4, snapping their season high winning streak at five games.  The two sides meet in a rubber match Friday at 7:00 at BB&T Ballpark with Wilmer Font on the mound for the Pelicans.  For more information head online to MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
