Green Sea's Calesio Newman ran a personal best 20.28 seconds in the 200 meter dash at the US Olympic Track and Field trials in Eugene, Oregon to advance to the semifinals.  His time was good enough for the 2nd fastest of the 25 qualifiers.  The top three finishers in Sunday's final will make the US Olympic team.

200 meter dash preliminary results

Newman will run at 9pm EST on Saturday night in the semifinals.  He'll need to finish among the top eight to reach Sunday's 7pm EST finals.  Newman is looking to join Amber Campbell as US Olympians from the Grand Strand.  Newman graduated from Green Sea-Floyds in 2005, winning state championships in the 100, 200 and 110 meter hurdles.  He went on to an All-American track career at North Carolina A&T.
